The Wright brothers were not infact the first to fly, but that honor goes to Mr. Gustave Whitehead who on August 14, 1901 got his flying machine off the ground in Fairfield, Connecticut. Sadly, his aircraft was never photographed, and because the Wright brothers got their aircraft photographed they were given the credit. Not to mention that Gustave was a German immigrant and anti-German sentiment was high in the US at that time.
